Ikusi Integrates the Communications Systems of the Automatic People Mover (APM) Train in the New Terminal at Barajas Airport

10 January 2006 14:03

San Sebastian, 10 January 2006: Ikusi has been chosen to integrate all the communications systems that will enable the automatic people mover train to operate with total security in the new terminal at Barajas Airport. This will be done through a system that applies wi-fi technology to the security systems. The system is already operative and will begin to run as soon as the terminal has been inaugurated.

The communications systems implemented by Ikusi is such that the land control centre is permanently informed of everything that is happening on the train. Several systems have been used to bring this about, among which we must highlight the wireless-LAN system which allows for the simultaneous transmission of up to 12 video signals from inside the train to the platform, which implies the use of a considerable bandwidth.

This is a pioneering approach within the market of wireless-LAN applications on trains, both in the requirements of the simultaneous transmission of a high number of video cameras and in the application of this in an environment that includes tunnels. The existence of tunnels, linked to the fact that a train is in movement means that only the highest and most accurate forms of technology must be used, and must guarantee the quality of communication between the train and the land control centre, even in the most adverse circumstances.

Aside from the systems described, Ikusi has also been chosen to install the public address and interphone systems, data transmission, the TETRA radio communications system, CCTV, telephones and all the software necessary for the integration of these systems and their connection to the airport's central system.
