Focon has signed an order with Siemens Transportation and Sifang Institute Qingdao for the supply of systems including passenger information and entertainment for 60 high-speed trains for Chinese Ministry of Railways. The first trains are scheduled to be put into operation for the Olympic Games in 2008 in Beijing. This is a huge breakthrough for Focon and will pave the way for further projects on one of the world's biggest markets for modern trains.

"For more than two years we have endeavoured to get this project, and we are very proud to have been selected as the supplier who will bring China into the 21st century as regards passenger information", commented senior manager of sales and marketing, Jens Møldrup.

Concurrently with the China order, Deutsche Bahn and Alstom Transport chose to implement Focon systems in 37 regional trains. Delivery of these trains will take place in the next few years and will strengthen Focon's position in Germany. Focon Electronic Systems is already dominating the passenger information area in Denmark, Sweden, Portugal and the Netherlands.

In a challenging market with increasing privatization, Focon was recently awarded a contract to supply systems for a number of Dutch trains, bringing the total number of older Dutch trains being upgraded to meet the future to more than a hundred.

"At Focon we are extremely delighted that the demand for our products is increasing, and furthermore the steadiness and sense of responsibility that we have maintained for twenty years is largely returned from the market", explained managing director, Niels-Henrik Hedegaard.

Focon employs over 70 skilled workers at the moment, but is looking into hiring a number of technical and administrative personnel for the new projects. a number of new employments of technical as well as administrative personnel.
