Trelleborg Suspension Components for Swedish Tilting Train Refurbishment

EuroMaint AB, Sweden's leading supplier of maintenance systems for the rail sector, has awarded Trelleborg Industrial AVS a € 2 million contract to supply chevron springs for refurbishment of SJ´s X2000 locomotives which drive the world's first high-speed tilting train, in service since 1990.
Trelleborg IAVS has designed a new chevron design to SJ's specification, which features a separate, reclaimable mounting bracket. The current contract is for the 4,500 chevrons to be supplied over two years. They will be fitted in pairs between the wheel axles and bogie frame to give longitudinal, vertical and lateral flexibility and are designed to absorb high levels of shock and vibration.
Innovative bogie design is a key feature of the success of the X2000 locomotive. The bogies are radially self-steering which reduces track forces and allows an increase in operating speed on straight track and up to 30% higher speed on curves.
The Swedish tilting trains seat 330 passengers and run at a maximum speed of 200 km/h. When first introduced on the Stockholm to Gothenburg route, travelling time was reduced very significantly. Tilting trains are now used on most major routes in Sweden with similar success.
