Trelleborg Industrial AVS is a well recognised supplier of antivibration mountings and suspension systems to the rail market with the Metalastik® brand product line, which includes primary and secondary suspension systems, centre control mountings, centre pivot bearings, control links and drive couplings and flexible bearings.

APPLICATIONS

Our products are suitable for every type of application from trams and light rail to heavy freight locomotives.

For secondary suspension, we offer a variety of products including all-rubber hourglass bearer springs and airspring systems, while Chevron and Metacone™ springs are typically used in primary suspensions.

CUSTOMISED SUSPENSION SYSTEM SOLUTIONS

Many applications require a custom-designed solution and one of our major strengths is our experience in analysing and modelling suspension system characteristics to achieve optimum performance.

SERVICES

Problem solving, including measuring and testing, is performed by our Rail Application team who will assist you in finding the best solution. The Application team also conducts training for our customers.

METACONE™ SPRINGS

An easily fitted and compact circular section suspension unit in which the rubber is loaded in combined shear and compression. It is particularly suitable for primary suspension of light rail vehicles.

CHEVRON

This provides three modes with dissimilar rates of flexibility for axlebox primary suspensions. Pairs of springs fitted in vee formation achieve this through shear and compression compliance within the rubber elements.

HOUR GLASS SPRING

A patented design suitable for both primary and secondary suspension of heavy vehicles. These springs provide large horizontal deflections for bogie rotation, and a rising rate stiffness for almost constant periodicity in the vertical axis. A half unit can be used with an airspring assembly for excellent vertical and horizontal stiffness characteristics.

AIR SPRING ASSEMBLY

An ideal secondary suspension for all types of heavy vehicles. These springs provide a low frequency suspension but a constant ride height.

BEARER SPRINGS

Large capacity springs designed to allow bogie rotation, these versatile designs can also be used as traction centres. Robust, but light and simple to fit.

CUSHYFOOT™ AND CUSHYFOOT™ 'S'

Suitable for mounting diverse machine types, such as diesel engines, generator sets, fans hydraulic units and lift machinery. The Cushyfoot 'S' is a buffered version used for suspension of rail vehicle engines and auxilliaries.

SPHERILASTIK™ BEARINGS

Typical uses include traction and braking reaction rods for rail and off-road vehicles, hydraulic damper fixings and other applications where a high duty bearing of compact size is required.

CONTROL LINKS

This is for all types of heavy vehicles. Provides excellent axle location under braking and traction forces. It is available in varying lengths and fitted with ultra duty, inner sleeve bushes or Spherilastik™ bearings.

Over sixty years experience of bonded rubber to metal technology has established a very large product portfolio with its associated service life experience. Use of this knowledge is now combined with simulation techniques, e.g. finite element analysis and multi-body vibration analysis software, to enable us to assess future challenges with greater confidence. These can then be combined with new/alternative materials, including composites and special metals, to generate products with the life expectancy demanded, and in the environment associated with our non-automotive customers.

Process technologies are also constantly under review to ensure both compliance with environmental regulations and optimisation of materials from a manufacturing and customer point of view. Adoption of aqueous adhesives and protective finishes are crucial to our technology development, together with continuous review of compound formulations to suit a broad range of product performance and environmental conditions.
