Bombardier Receives €33 Million Order For MOVIA Metro Cars In Bucharest

Bombardier Transportation has received an additional order from Metrorex SA in Romania to supply a further six MOVIA metro trains, in all 36 cars, for operation on the Bucharest Metro. The contract is valued at approximately €33 million (US$43 million). The funding for this new order is shared by Metrorex and the European Investment Bank (EIB). As with the previous orders for the MOVIA metro trains for Bucharest, which add up to more than 260 cars, the final assembly will take place in cooperation with Bombardier's local Romanian partner, Electroputere in Craiova, located 180km west of Bucharest. Delivery of these trains is scheduled to start by the end of 2007 and will be completed in 2008.
Bombardier Transportation in Sweden is responsible for the vehicle deliveries as well as the production of the MITRAC propulsion and controls system at its plant in Västerås. Carbodies and bogies will be produced at the German sites in Görlitz and Siegen.
Commenting on the contract, Stéphane Rambaud-Measson, president of mainline and metros, Bombardier Transportation, said: "We see this new order as recognition of our work and are delighted to continue our good cooperation with Metrorex. The new order for our Movia metro trains increases our engagement in Bucharest, but also shows our commitment to Romania."

Bucharest is radically improving its metro system by modernizing its fleet of metro trains and its entire metro system. The MOVIA metro trains currently running in Bucharest dovetail perfectly into this new system. The rapid, cost-effective high-performance metros from Bombardier Transportation are already in service in major urban centers such as Berlin, Paris, Helsinki, Lisbon, Stockholm, Athens, Munich, New York, Mexico City, Toronto, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai and soon in London.
