Bombardier announced today that it received an order from Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) for the delivery of 30 bi-directional Bombardier FLEXITY Outlook trams. The new 100% low-floor trams will be put in service on the tram network of Valencia and Alicante in Spain. The contract is valued at approximately US$106 million US (€81 million). Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2006 and 2007. The contract also includes an option for a further ten trams of the same type.

“This order by an important city in Spain with a long tradition in the operation of tramways demonstrates the superior trust in Bombardier’s engineering capacity and the continual success of the Bombardier FLEXITY tram family,” stated André Navarri, President, Bombardier Transportation. “For Bombardier this order represents a breakthrough in the Spanish tram-market and enhances our company’s further progress in this important European country.”

The FLEXITY tram for Valencia is based on a proven modular technology that features a 100% low-floor interior while using conventional wheel-set bogies offering excellent riding behaviour and increasing passenger comfort. With a length of 32.5m, each tram consists of five modules. The vehicles also include the Bombardier MITRAC propulsion and control system offering the highest reliability and featuring the latest electronic technology. For heightened passenger comfort, the new trams are equipped with air conditioning as well as designated wheel-chair and multipurpose areas.

Vehicles of the same family are in successful revenue service in the cities of Linz (Austria), Lodz (Poland) and have recently been put in service in Geneva (Switzerland) and Eskisehir (Turkey). They have also been ordered by the cities of Brussels (Belgium) and Marseille (France).

Bombardier Transportation has two manufacturing and services sites in Spain, Trapaga (Bilbao) and Alcobendas (Madrid). It has been very active in the Spanish rail market where it is currently delivering the AVE* high-speed trains and other projects to Metro Madrid and Metro Bilbao. Moreover, it was recently awarded an important contract for the delivery of its cutting-edge CITYFLO 450 CBTC-ATC solution for Metro Madrid Lines 1 and 6.
