Quest Diagnostics - Substance Abuse Laboratory and Drug Testing Kits

Quest Diagnostics provides an efficient and comprehensive service to support organisations that wish to carry out a workplace substance abuse programme tailored to their requirements and can also service occupational health programmes.

TOXICOLOGY LABORATORY ACCREDITATION

The analytical processes of the service are accredited by UKAS and we are a registered supplier of Achilles Link-Up (21544). The toxicology laboratory is housed within our main laboratory in West London which services diagnostics and clinical trials work. The main laboratory is accredited by both Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA) and the College of American Pathology (CAP).

SAMPLE COLLECTIONS

We can offer a 'walk in' collection service at our Central London Laboratory at 10, Upper Wimpole Street or otherwise we can arrange for a collection officer to attend your designated work sites, regionally and nationally. We therefore can service 'for cause', 'unannounced' and 'pre-employment' collections. All samples (where required) are collected under stringent chain of custody protocols, ensuring that the process from beginning to end is legally defensible.

SAMPLE ANALYSIS

Samples submitted for analysis will be subject to an initial screening test. All samples indicating a non-negative result on screening will automatically be subject to confirmation by gas chromatography / mass spectroscopy - referred to as 'gold standard' and most importantly, accepted in a court of law.

RESULTS

Negative results are usually available within 24 hours and positive results and confirmations within 2-5 working days.

POSITIVE RESULT INTERPRETATION

Our in-house toxicologist is available for advice and interpretation of positive results.

TRAINING - DRUG AND ALCOHOL MISUSE

Quest Diagnostics offers a range of courses. These courses aim to help delegates understand the facts about drug and alcohol misuse in the workplace including legal considerations, how to compile a substance misuse policy and interpretation of results reports.

On-site training can be tailored to your requirements. Where appropriate, courses are accredited for CPD from the RCOM and PGEA from the R.C.G.P.

EXPERT WITNESS

In the unfortunate instance of collection process of a positive result and/or analytical process being challenged in the courts, our toxicologist can act as an expert witness.

DRUG TESTING KITS

Quest Diagnostics currently supply the following kits:

• Oralstat - a saliva based test capable of picking up cross-reactivity against the most common drugs and substances
• Rapid Drug Screen - a urine test with the capability of testing up to 13 drugs and their metabololites using colloidal gold technology; results can be read in 3-5 minutes
