LOCOMOTIVE MANUFACTURING, REPAIR AND UPGRADEWith an 80% market share of both domestic and Southern African fleets, the Locomotive Business is the leading locomotive manufacturing, repair and upgrade facility in the Southern African market. Recent developments include microprocessor electrical control, glass screen cabs and adhesion and tractive effort improvements. COACH REFURBISHMENT, CONVERSION, UPGRADE AND REPAIRThis Business refurbishes, converts, upgrades and repairs all types of passenger coaches and allied rolling stock such as guards' vans, motorcar wagons and steam-heat vehicles. If you've ever travelled on a South African train, you've probably travelled in a TRANSWERK refurbished coach. WAGON BUILDWagon Build supplies up to 500 new wagons annually to both the domestic and international markets. A spectrum of designs is available to handle anything from coal or iron ore to cement and fuel tankers. TRANSWERK wagons are the champion heavy freight-haulers of the South African economy. FREIGHT CAR REFURBISHMENTThe RFR (Rail Freight Refurbishment) Business refurbishes freight rolling stock and provides related products and services including wreckage repairs, modifications, conversions and upgrading as well as the refurbishment and upgrading of bogies and bogie re-gauging. This results in both lower capital investment to obtain the required value and an extended lifespan for existing capital equipment. ROLLING STOCK COMPONENT MANUFACTURE, UPGRADE AND REFURBISHMENTThe Components Business specializes in the refurbishment, upgrade and manufacture of rolling stock components. Technological expertise and quality standards, together with modern test facilities have increased turnover fourfold in recent years. This Business has now been further divided into Rolling Stock Equipment, Rotating Machinery and Wheels divisions. TARPAULINS AND AUXILIARY EQUIPMENTPVC coated fabric and auxiliary equipment (such as lashing chains, etc.) are manufactured to the latest international standards.
