The New Ballast Dumper

19 May 2003 09:59

Rexquote, the UK’s leading manufacturer of roadrailed excavators will use Intermat 2003 to unveil a versatile new Roadrailed dumper based on the latest generation Thwaites machine.

Rexquote will use Intermat 2003 to re-enforce its commitment to it’s customers in the rail infrastructure sector with the introduction of the new Ballast Dumper which features a driveline, chassis and controls from the Thwaites 9.0 tonne Alldrive. The machine will make its world debut on the stand of French dealer Ammann (Number D10 Hall 5B).

The machine, which complies with the UK’s Railtrack GM/RT1300 standards, incorporates a number of unique features designed specifically for this exacting industry sector. These include:

· Friction drive arrangement – Proven Perkins diesel engine and powershift transmission drive through a friction drive system to provide the machine with a track speed of 26.5 km/hour.

· Rail lighting package – A custom-built package of red and white warning lights ensures strict adherence to stringent safety guidelines.

· In-built versatility – The machine is offered in a wide range of configurations including ballast dumper, flatbed, 3-way tipper, self-loader and access platform to suit individual customer requirements.

Friction Drive Arrangement

The Ballast Dumper offers a heaped skip capacity of 3.7 cu. m. and a payload on rails of 7000 kg. of free-flowing material. It is powered by a fuel-efficient Perkins 1000 Series diesel engine that satisfies all current noise and exhaust emissions regulations. Developing 75 kW, the Perkins power unit drives through a Powershift ITL transmission In turn, the machine’s wheels drive a friction drive system that links the unit’s offset rim wheels with hydraulically actuated rail wheels. This highly efficient driveline configuration allows the machine to travel on rail at speeds of up to 26.5 km/hour for rapid deployment between work sites. The efficiency of this system is further enhanced by a modification to the powershift transmission control that allows the operator to switch quickly between gears.

As we know health and safety regulations governing the rail sector are among the most stringent and require manufacturers to incorporate a wide array of additional safety features. Rexquote respond to these requirements with a full package of equipment designed to make the Ballast Dumper among the safest in the industry.

On-track safety is further enhanced by the provision of a red and white directional working light package that is in full compliance with all road and rail infrastructure regulations.

In-Built Versatility

In recognition of the specific needs of their customers Rexquote have designed the Ballast Dumper to be a versatile and integral part of any rail maintenance company’s plant portfolio.

Along with the Ballast Dumper that will be on the stand with Thwaites and its French dealer Ammann at Intermat 2003, the dumper is available in a wide range of configurations. These include flatbeds, 3-way tippers, self loaders, access platforms, lighting sets, truck mixers and mini-skip handlers. These versatile options utilise the proven Rexquote/Thwaites undercarriage and main body but incorporate a custom-built upperstructure designed to match individual application or customer requirements.

The versatility and utilisation of the dumper is further enhanced by a broad range of optional extras that include road lighting equipment, and a roading package that includes driving mirrors, standard working lights, and working beacon (road only).
