Laser Rail

Doveholes Tunnel Measurement, Derbyshire

23 February 2005 09:55

Client's Requirements

The client, First Engineering, are due to undertake track renewal through Doveholes tunnel in Derbyshire on the Buxton – Manchester line shortly. Laser Rail, at the request of First Engineering, was asked to gauge the one and three quarter mile double track tunnel so that the client could carry out track design work.

Laser Rail’s Solution

To satisfy the requirements of the contract, the Laser Gauging Vehicle (LGV), Laser Rail’s road-rail infrastructure measuring system, was used to gauge Doveholes tunnel. The LGV was an ideal solution for this contract because it is able to complete all the work in one shift, thus minimising possession time on track, whilst also ensuring high accuracy measurements. The client was provided with 10m profiles of the tunnel for use in further gauging and track design work.
