Laser Rail Unveils Laser Profiling Trolley (LaserPeT)

25 August 2004 11:08

LaserPeT is a portable structure profiling system, which measures continuous profiles at walking pace. It uses entirely new, but proven, technology and represents a fundamental change in the way that tunnel and structure profiles can be measured, delivering accurate and complete measurements very quickly.

Laser Rail's new LaserPeT tunnel and structure measuring system has been successfully trialled on the London Underground deep tube network. Measurements on the Waterloo and City Line demonstrated a measuring speed of 1.6km/h in operational conditions whilst achieving better than 5mm overall measuring accuracy.

LaserPeT uses a low-power, eye-safe laser system and is the result of a five-year development program by Laser Rail's own Research and Development Division.

The LaserPeT is now available as a new service from Laser Rail. Operated by skilled engineers and technicians, the service can be called upon to measure any length of metro infrastructure. The system is engineered to provide optimal compatibility with ClearRouteTM, Laser Rail's internationally used kinematic clearance analysis software. LaserPeT provides sufficient information to enable clearances to be resolved to better than 1mm.

Additional outputs can include micro-profiles (measured every 10mm) that can be used for management of longitudinal assets (such as cable runs), visual images, rail profile measurement and datum plate recognition.

LaserPeT will be on show at Innotrans 2004 (Track 3/5) from 21st-24th September in Berlin, Germany where regular demonstrations of this new technology will take place.
