Ground Control - Ground-Penetrating Radar Measurements on Railway Lines

Ground Control specialises in the examination of railway lines using high-speed SafeRailSystem, our Ground-Penetration Radar (GPR) system. We have over 20 years’ experience and we have worked on over 20,000km of railway tracks. We are based in Munich but we have worked on railway projects all over the world.

SAFERAILSYSTEMS - GROUND-PENETRATION RADAR

Our Ground-Penetration Radar (GPR), SafeRailSystem, provides continuous information about the track, from the ballast down to the formation. SafeRailSystem analyses the thickness and condition of the ballast bed, the drainage situation and load-bearing capacity of the track, the condition of the ballast bed bottom, the quality of the renewal operations on the track, and the undertrack conditions.

SafeRailSystem can be run on all trains, over any distance, with high resolution, with precise positioning, and with any speed prescribed by the train schedule.

PLANNING TRACK RENEWAL OPERATIONS SAFELY

Ground Control has developed SafeRailSystem to be sure we can always offer exactly what the customer needs. The customer defines his requirements and we provide the customised result according to these requirements.

SafeRailSystem offers railway engineers the information they need when planning track renewal operations safely and efficiently.

SafeRailSystem offers the railway engineer services such as:

  • Continuous mapping of ballast bed thickness
  • Differentiation between clean and fouled ballast
  • Determination of drainage problems in ballast bed and undertrack
  • Localisation of load-bearing problems such as ballast pockets

EXAMINATION OF RAILWAY TRACKS AND UNDERTRACKS

Additional information may be required depending on the undertrack conditions. SafeRailSystem provides these results with unchanging accuracy independent of whether they concern localising the peat layers, mapping the top of the bed rock or exploring other specific undertrack features.

Track-renewal operations are always very cost-intensive. We use SafeRailSystem to check the result thoroughly and exactly to ensure renewal quality reflects the customer’s quality expectations. We also provide important information about the quality of the new ballast (cleanliness), the thickness of the ballast bed and sub-ballast layer, the efficiency of the track drainage, the evenness of the ballast-bed bottom or sub-ballast layer, and the track cross-section.

SETTING STANDARDS FOR GPR SYSTEMS

Our SafeRailSystem sets standards in the field of GPR systems. It is based on almost 20 years of experience working with GPR and it is the product of continuous development and adaptation to the special requirements of our international railway customers.

The SafeRailSystem provides:

  • Clear, detailed results railway engineers can work with
  • Positioning of the measuring data across any length of track, down to the exact metre
  • Measuring on tracks of any length
  • Measuring according to schedule
  • Up to eight measuring profiles simultaneously
  • Special antennae for high resolution in all depth ranges
  • Measurement between sleepers for best data quality
  • Fully accurate allocation with special positioning systems
  • High storage capacity for long shifts
