Turnout Manufacturing Company Acquires Two Turnout Grinding Trains - Extension of the Product Portfolio Achieved by Entry in New Market Segment

07 August 2007 11:45

With the takeover of EISS GmbH & Co. KG, a company engaged in the rail machining business, BWG GmbH & Co. KG, a member of the Voestalpine group, has taken a big step towards the strategic expansion and growth in the field of services.

After a short phase of autonomy, the newly acquired company will be integrated into BWG, and it will become a part of the product field service within the current financial year. Simultaneously, two Harsco grinding trains, type RGH 20C, and one Pandrol machine, type SCG 23, were acquired. Both machines are specialized in the grinding of turnouts and crossings.

With this new service, a product highly demanded by the market is added to the value chain of BWG GmbH & Co. KG, allowing us to take advantage of a considerable growth potential.

"We are convinced that the experiences gathered in turnout maintenance will be a good basis for the development of new turnouts and turnout systems", says Thomas Kalkbrenner, spokesperson of the BWG management. 2With the acquisition of EISS GmbH & Co. KG we will achieve our aim to increase the turnover in the field of services from currently Euro 3 Mio to Euro 10 Mio already within the current accounting year."

Turnouts, especially in high-speed traffic, are subject to particular requirements and are exposed to high loads. The grinding of turnouts considerably reduces the risk of damage, and consequently the risk of an early replacement of major turnout components, and finally reduces the maintenance costs of the railway network.

Each of these high-duty turnout grinding trains consists of two power units (locomotives) and a center trailer with an overall length of approximately 42m and disposes of 20 grinding units each. Currently, both trains are mainly in service at Deutsche Bahn AG.

BWG is a leading partner for modern turnout systems and acknowledged specialist in the field of high speed on many international railway lines. The range of services outreaches by far the mere supply of turnouts.

BWG regards the common examination of a project under consideration of all process components, from construction to smooth long-term operation under economic aspects, as well as logistic attendance and special consultancy during the installation of our turnouts as equally important.

With its own continuous research and development and a high-grade product range, BWG is the first address for turnout system technology. BWG belongs to the railway systems division of the Austrian voestalpine AG, which is quoted in the ATX at Vienna stock exchange.
