Zhuzhou Times Electric Group - Sensors, Transducers and Resistors for Locomotive Power

Founded in 1959, Zhuzhou Times Electric Group (TEG), also known as Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute, CSR (ZELRI), is located in Shifeng District, Zhuzhou, Hunan. Honoured as the cradle of electric locomotives in China, TEG is capable of supplying either standard or customized products for different application requirements in the railway industry.

These products include current, voltage, speed and pressure sensors for locomotive sub-systems such as turbine chargers and traction motors, and edge wound, power and dynamic braking resistors for locomotives and power systems.

Nowadays, these products not only enjoy a high reputation on Chinese railways but also are well accepted by clients in Europe, North America, Southeast Asia, etc.

SENSORS AND TRANSDUCERS

TEG supplies four sensor categories for measurement and control of current, voltage, speed and pressure in electric/diesel locomotives, passenger/metro cars, EMUs and large railroad maintenance vehicles.

CURRENT SENSORS

A series of three products for measuring AC, DC and impulse current:

  • TQG6 measures current ranging from 100A to 500A and features magnetic field compensation
  • NT measures current ranging from 30A to 1,000A and has three different mounting options
  • TQG4 measures current ranging from 800A to 1,500A and features dual hall cell design and high anti-magnetic capability

VOLTAGE SENSORS

A series of three products for measuring AC, DC and impulse voltage:

  • NCV1 measures voltage ranging from 200V to 3,000V and features fast response
  • NV100 measures voltage ranging from 50V to 2,500V and features hall cell design
  • NV200 measures voltage ranging from 200V to 6,400V and features dual hall cell design and high anti-magnetic capability

SPEED SENSORS FOR LOCOMOTIVE SUB-SYSTEMS

A series of three products for speed measurement in locomotive sub-systems: TBT1 uses electro-magnetic design for speed measurement in turbine chargers; TQG2B uses permanent magnetic design for speed measurement in traction motors; TQG15B uses photoelectric design for speed measurement in wheel set brakes.

PRESSURE SENSORS

The TQG14 enables pressure measurement from 0Mpa to 1.0Mpa in loco sub-systems and is especially suitable for air/oil/water pressure measurement in locomotive safety running monitors and diesel engines.

POWER RESISTORS

TEG supplies various kinds of power resistors for locomotives and power systems:

VITREOUS ENAMEL POWER RESISTORS

With terminals suitable for soldering or bolt connection, power resistors have a rugged lead-free vitreous enamel coating and a flame resistant coating.

Typical L series vitreous enamel power resistors range from 25W to 1,000W, 0.05© to 392K© and from 625V to 8,900V.

Typical D series vitreous enamel adjustable power resistors range from 25W to 1,000W, from 1.0© to 100K© and from 625V to 8,900V.

HIGH CURRENT OVAL EDGE WOUND RESISTORS

High current oval edge wound resistors feature:

  • Low resistance (min. 0.0426ohm), high current (max. 135A) and excellent corrosion resistance
  • Working voltage: limited to 550V if mounting is grounded; high voltage mounting is available.
  • Resistance tolerance: ±8%
  • Materials: stainless resistance alloy, brass or nickel-plated copper

DYNAMIC BRAKING RESISTORS

Dynamic braking resistors (DB resistors) are used to absorb the energy generated when stopping electric motors. They function to absorb this energy and cool down quickly between stops.

We have developed a wide range of DB resistors for locomotives and metro vehicles that are manufactured in standard or customized packages per request. Units can be supplied either as open banks or mounting into existing enclosures.

Typical dynamic resistors for metro vehicles are features as follows:

  • Rated resistance @20°C
    Braking resistance: 1.31© +/-5%
    Discharging resistance: 0.65© +/-5%
  • Rated working voltage: DC 1,500V
  • Voltage fluctuation: DC 900Vto DC 1,900V
  • Ribbon max. permissible working temperature: 600°C
  • Cooling: forced air cooling

Currently this type of dynamic resistors has been already applied in Shanghai's metro line.

Typical dynamic resistors for mainline locomotives and EMUs feature the following:

  • Environment
    Working temperature: -25° C to 45°C
    Relative humidity: 90% (25° C)
    Anti-vibration acceleration: 3g
  • Resistance: <10©
  • Rated working current: 1,000A
  • Rated braking power: 1,000kW
  • Ribbon max. permissible working temperature: 640°C
  • Dielectric voltage between ribbon and enclosure: 1,000V
  • Cooling: forced air cooling

Currently the dynamic resistors have been widely installed on mainline locomotives and EMUs in China.
