Kelvatek is pleased to announce the receipt of the first Network Rail order for REFLEKT, a fault location device specifically for the rail signalling system. REFLEKT is a portable and fully automated time domain reflectometer (TDR) specifically designed to operate on the Network Rail infrastructure following several months' of collaborative research and development.
Conventional TDR requires a high level of training and expertise to interpret complex waveforms in order to locate faults or open circuits. REFLEKT has a simple, one button operation with a clear user interface and display; while patented technology fully automates the fault location process. The unit provides top of the range performance in a uniquely easy to use product.
Cable theft
Estimated to cost Network Rail £40m over the next two years, cable theft has placed new demands on the network and maintenance teams. The unpredictable nature of cable theft causes widespread disruption to passengers and heavy fines for Network Rail, making it imperative that faults (open circuits) are located safely and quickly in order to minimise downtime.
In the past, Network Rail maintenance teams would have to walk the track to locate the section of cable that had been stolen which is often time consuming and labour intensive. Only when the open circuit has been located can the maintainers begin the process of replacing the cable and restoring power.
REFLEKT removes the need to walk the track making fault location safer and more efficient allowing resources to be targeted more effectively. The REFLEKT can locate the stolen section of cable within three minutes of being connected to any part of the network affected by the theft. Network Rail maintenance teams can therefore restore power in a fraction of the time reducing the long delays accustomed with cable theft.
Reliable fault location
The REFLEKT makes fault location more efficient, effective and practical than ever before providing the user with reliable distance to fault information in a matter of minutes. Furthermore, it's lightweight and rugged nature; combined with eight hours battery life, make it ideal for the harsh railway environment.
REFLEKT makes fault location more effective, accessible and simple than ever before.
