Turbo Power Systems Wins Further Rail Order Worth US$8m

17 April 2007 11:54

Turbo Power Systems (TPS), the innovative power generation and conditioning equipment supplier, is pleased to announce it has received an order from Bombardier Transportation worth in excess of US$8m.

Bombardier is producing a new fleet of metro subway cars for the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), and TPS will supply Bombardier with auxiliary power electronics units for 39 train sets. These units will form a key part of a distributed power system throughout the train, providing a source of quality power for sub-systems such as the air-conditioning equipment.

The initial confirmed order is for production equipment, spares, training and engineering services, and is worth in excess of US$8m. Delivery of the production equipment is expected to take place between 2008 and 2010.

The TTC have a number of phased options which, if exercised, could increase the value of the overall components contract between TPS and Bombardier.

The TTC is a public transport authority that operates buses, streetcars, subways and rapid transit lines in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The TTC is the third largest agency in North America, serving over 430 million passengers each year.

Michael Hunt, chief executive officer of Turbo Power Systems, said: "The company is clearly very pleased to have won another contract with Bombardier. TPS is currently supplying rail electronics directly to the TTC for a separate vehicle upgrade program, and we are now delighted to be supporting Bombardier in the manufacture of Toronto's next generation of subway vehicles as well. "This contact win further consolidates our position in the international rail sector and reflects the growing reputation of TPS in this market. We look forward to continuing to build on these contract successes throughout the rest of 2007."
