One of the world's leading rolling stock manufacturers, Alstom Transport has awarded HBL Power Systems a contract for the design and manufacture of onboard sintered plate nickel cadmium battery systems for use on their Citadis Trams.
HBL nickel cadmium batteries will be supplied to be used on 53 Alstom Citadis trams for the lines being built in Dijon and Brest. The tram order for 53 cars was placed jointly by Brest (20 trams) and Dijon (33 trams).
These nickel cadmium battery systems are sintered plate reduced maintenance batteries type and will provide reliable, reduced maintenance onboard backup power to support emergency backup for the Citadis trams.
Each battery system will be supplied as a complete unit, ready to install. HBL is successfully audited in accordance with Alstom Transport's supply chain and quality requirements.
Other prestigious projects awarded to HBL by Alstom include:
- Sintered plate nickel cadmium batteries for tours projects
- Sintered plate nickel cadmium batteries for Amsterdam Metro
As part of the selection process HBL has been rigorously audited by Alstom Transport to ensure our manufacturing and business processes are in line with their specific supply chain requirements. HBL is an IRIS certified supplier.
Executive director, international business at HBL Power Systems Robert Herritty said: "We are thrilled with the confidence Alstom has shown in HBL to place further orders for these new trams, we continue to look for ways to add value for our customers and bring the latest technologies to their engineering teams."
HBL's reduced maintenance nickel cadmium batteries are a perfect choice for this type of rail application as they have been specifically designed to meet stringent requirements in terms of reliability and reduced maintenance.
