Australian refuelling specialist, Banlaw, has been named 2011 Hunter and Central Coast Exporter of the Year. Banlaw took out the award as well as the Large Exporter of the Year at the 2011 Hunter and Central Coast Export Awards held on 12 August.

The company has experienced 260% growth in export sales in 2010/11 up A$8m to A$11m. It now exports its end to end refueling systems, products and related services to more than 32 countries.

Managing director business development Bill Clifton said exports were boosted by a major contract with Barrick Gold to install fuel management systems at 14 mines, nine of those were outside Australia (the US and PNG) as well as other key business in the UK, Africa and Indonesia. Mr Clifton said Banlaw had recently opened new offices in the US (to serve the Americas) and Western Australia (to serve Asia and Africa) to undertake more projects and meet increasing demand for its products and systems across the world.

"To support export growth, we have invested heavily in people, systems and infrastructure," Mr Clifton said.

"We have also boosted training and support to our 22 distributors," he said.

Mr Clifton said that Banlaw's new enterprise software is enabling its unique fuel reconciliation product FuelTrack™ to become a truly global fuel management tool.

"We are well placed to grow business in Asia and North America and we are currently making a concerted push into Africa. With the rising cost of fuel and a continuing resources boom, we see a bright future for exports of Banlaw systems and services. The award is a credit to our talented and dedicated staff who make quality products and are truly world class fuel management specialists."

He said that Banlaw's Australian designed and made products are built tough to withstand harsh operating environments.

"We have been installing systems in sub zero temperatures in the US and the hot, humid climes of PNG and Indonesia."

Banlaw beat 16 finalists from a range of industries to take out the major award. It will now compete in the 2011 Premier's NSW Export Awards to be announced in October.

Banlaw is headquartered in the Australian city of Newcastle where it researches, designs and manufactures its products. Its products and systems include its unique Banlaw FuelTrack system that assists with fuel security, environmental compliance, stock reconciliation, maintenance scheduling, calculating burn rates and streamlining fuel ordering. It also manufactures fluid transfer and other hydrocarbon management systems and provides related consultancy and project management services for the mining, rail, fleet and port industries.
