Transmitton, international supplier of integrated system control and asset management solutions to the rail industry, has been awarded the contract to provide its Real Time Passenger Information System (RTPIS) for the St Pancras interim station.
The interim station will be in operation until the old station - the famous Barlow shed - has been completely refurbished and made into a split-level station for Midland Mainline, Thameslink and Eurostar trains.
The Transmitton solution was selected because of its cutting edge capabilities, its inherent expansion and upgrade facilities, and its robustness. The passenger information system is purpose-built, flexible and responsive. Although initially operating as a solution for the interim station, the system is designed to expand and extend into a fully integrated station control system, providing credible real time passenger information.
The RTPIS is designed so that it can interface with Train Describer information sources from as far afield as the French CTRL Train Describer (TD) and the West Hampstead TD to the north, which provides real time train movements from almost as far north as Leicester.
The RTPIS solution being implemented features, for the first time anywhere, real time synchronisation between trains and station providing unparalleled accuracy and reliability for the travelling public.
The RTPIS includes among its components a complete purpose-built system for controlling stations, providing a preferable alternative to using a disparate selection of monitors, keyboards, computers, microphones and control panels. It can integrate the operation of many station sub-systems including passenger help points, passenger information displays, public address, CCTV, staff radio and/or telephone systems, and the monitoring and asset management of ticket machines, lifts, escalators, lighting, heating and ventilation systems.
