Transmitton Plays Major Role in Channel Tunnel Rail Link Team

21 March 2006 10:00

International supplier of integrated control and asset management solutions to the rail industry, Transmitton, is a major contractor in the second construction phase of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL). On track to open in 2007, the new high-speed line boosted London's Olympic Games bid and is set to cut the London to Paris Eurostar journey times to just 2hrs 15mins.

The 74km (46-mile) first phase of the high-speed line, from the tunnel to Fawkham Junction in North Kent, opened in September 2003. Phase 2 will extend the line 39km (24-miles) into London St. Pancras via stations at Stratford, East London and Ebbsfleet in North West Kent. Rail Link Engineering (RLE) is designing and project managing both phases of the CTRL.

The main contractor is ACT and Transmitton has been sub-contracted by Ultra Electronics PMES to design, manufacture, assemble, factory test, deliver and commission SCADA equipment at Ebbsfleet substation, and upgrade SCADA equipment at Northfleet and Stone Crossing substations and the existing SCADA master station at Lewisham. The company has designed a new SB104 fastflex SCADA remote terminal unit (RTU) to monitor and control Ebbsfleet and Northfleet substations, which will be controlled from Lewisham.

Transmitton project manager Ken Wogan said: "This is an exciting challenge, as the CTRL represents the future of London's transport infrastructure and will also play a key role in transporting passengers to the Olympic site near Stratford for the 2012 Games."
