Teleste, an international technology group founded in 1954, specialises in broadband data communication systems and solutions. The group is divided into two strategic business units: Broadband Cable Networks and Video Networks. Broadband Cable Networks serves cable operators and a major part of its business activities are handled through direct customer contact. Video Networks supplies solutions for optical signal transmission and video network management software solutions for video surveillance and a major part of its business is handled through system integrators.

VIDEO SURVEILLANCE FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS

Teleste Video Networks manufactures and supplies solutions for video surveillance networks between camera outputs and control rooms. Teleste’s focus area is video surveillance applications requiring high-quality and real-time video, audio and data.

With authorities as the main end-user group of its systems, the most important applications are traffic control systems for road and rail transport, and urban surveillance systems as well as applications related to public safety in areas such as border control, ports and airports. One of Teleste’s fields of special expertise is integration of large networked video surveillance systems, consisting of several hundreds of cameras into one unified system.

NETWORK PLANNING AND SYSTEM INTEGRATION FOR ROAD AND RAIL TRAFFIC CONTROL

Video surveillance solutions by Teleste Video Networks can be divided into two categories that can be used in combination or separately:

• Analogue or digital non-compressed video and data optical fibre transmission solutions
• Compressed video applications for network solutions, i.e. IP or ATM networks

Whilst optical fibre systems are mainly used for zero-delay transport of TV quality pictures, more and more applications benefit from the increasing possibilities that our network systems offer.

Teleste is also capable of providing competitive services related to network planning, management and system integration, especially for projects involving large-scale road and rail traffic control solutions. Teleste is simultaneously, through partnerships, actively pursuing a number of complementary technical solutions related to these applications, such as image analysis. These solutions are designed to be included in its overall range of supply.

NETWORKED VIDEO SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS

Through its network system integration concept Teleste provides an integrated end-to-end customer solution between camera outputs and control rooms. Teleste’s special expertise in this segment lies in the integration of large networked video surveillance systems, consisting of several hundreds of cameras, into one unified system. The projects are delivered in co-operation with trusted partners.

The heart of the solution is the advanced EASI™ Modular Real-Time Integrated System (MoRIS) suite of video management, integrating existing analogue and digital video systems as well as providing interfaces for integration to traffic management and DCS systems, for example. Integration with other systems is possible, depending on customers’ needs.

INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS (ITS) FOR RAILWAYS

Teleste’s most prominent system integration projects so far relate to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The latest large project relates to the delivery of a comprehensive IP-based network to the French national railway authority (SNFC). This network connected existing local video surveillance systems covering more than 120 railway stations in the greater Paris area. This network will simultaneously manage over 3,000 high-quality real-time video streams for numerous users and it ranks among one of the world’s largest video surveillance systems.

Teleste has also delivered a nationwide IP-based MPEG-4 video network infrastructure to the Austrian highway authority (ASFiNAG) connecting existing local highway video surveillance systems covering the whole of Austria. The system is used by multiple authorities for video monitoring of motorways and tunnels and it includes video streaming, recording and video management, as well as, an effective data traffic management system for preventing network overbooking and traffic prioritising. The system also provides video streaming to the Internet.
