A New Approach for Optimisation

07 March 2006

Qnamic AG and the University of Applied Sciences of Northwest Switzerland (Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz) have agreed to work together on a completely new approach for resource optimisation. The approach promises to allow integrated optimisation at all levels of planning and operations.

Claudia Schmid, Qnamic's Chief Technology Officer, commented on the new partnership: "We are very excited about our collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences. It will allow us to combine the unique RailOpt modelling approach with state-of-the-art numerical optimisation. For our users, it will give a whole new meaning to simulation and optimisation.

Do you want to understand the effect of changes in labour laws? What happens if you open a traction depot in a new country? A customer calls with a request for new trains over the next few days - how does this impact on resources in the operating plan? These are some of the questions RailOpt will let you answer - and without changing the model or the optimisation algorithm. You simply specify the new conditions and run a RailOpt simulation to obtain a re-optimised system plan for resource use."
