In September 2008, after an intensive preparatory phase, MEN Mikro Elektronik was officially certified according to EN9100 as a supplier for the aviation and space industry. As an accredited partner, MEN chose the DQS (Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Zertifizierung von Managementsystemen, German Institute for Certification of Management Systems), one of the most renowned certification companies of management systems worldwide.

The high standards and unique requirements in aviation demand extremely reliable products, which have to prove themselves over many years in rugged industrial environments, as well as a close cooperation with the customer from the design phase until an after-sales support period of ten years or longer. The quality management system according to EN9100 takes these requirements into account. It includes the DIN EN ISO 9001 but adds more than 80 items that focus on the specific requirements of the aviation and space industry.

These are, for example e.g. the inclusion of the quality management requirements of the aviation authorities, the introduction of a configuration management process tailored to the product, first article inspection (FAI), risk assessment, verification management, and traceability or the assignment of authorizations, e.g. for releases. Beside having clear project management processes and traceability guaranteed at all times MEN excels especially in its flat hierarchy and the high motivation of employees, team and department heads and management to introduce the EN 9100 management system.

The EN 9100 is based on the SAE AS 9100, which was developed in the US and published in 2001, and comprises the areas of construction, development, production, mounting and maintenance. As an EN 9100 certified manufacturer MEN is also listed in the Online Aerospace Supplier Information System (OASIS) database.
