GarrettCom - Industrial Ethernet Networking ProductsGarrettCom, a privately held company founded in 1989, sells feature-rich, high-availability industrial networking products through OEMs, sophisticated resellers, and systems integrators to customers throughout the world. We are an industry leader in providing cost-effective, efficient, innovative, off-the-shelf industrial Ethernet products designed and manufactured in the USA for heavy-duty and stressed applications. RAIL ETHERNET NETWORKING PRODUCTSGarrettCom's Magnum product range emphasises fibre capabilities, gigabit Ethernet, fast Ethernet, Power over Ethernet (PoE), resilience, ruggedised design, extended temperature ranges and unrivalled reliability for the transportation market. GarrettCom works with third-party organisations to ensure that not only are EN50155, Mil-Std, NEBS, ETSI and IEC6185 standards adhered to, but that all products either meet or exceed expectations. GarrettCom has been involved in a variety of railway projects throughout the world, including for:
EN50155 STANDARD NETWORKING PRODUCTSGarrettCom networking products conform to the EN50155 standard for electronic railroad applications. EN50155 introduces stringent demands, well beyond those usually expected for COTS-based equipment. In particular, the standard mandates that electronic systems on trains will need to operate over a 30-year period, 24 hours a day (approximately 250,000 hours) without failure. To meet these requirements GarrettCom designs and builds its products to withstand the toughest environmental conditions mandated by EN50155: humidity, extended temperature ranges (-40°C to +85°C), shock and vibrations, and even power fluctuations. Many industrial environments preclude the use of failure-prone fans; EN50155 is no different and prohibits fans from use in train electronics. Only passive cooling technologies are permitted. EN50155 as a precautionary measure suggests the use of protective coatings for PCBs in electronic products to counteract corrosive atmospheres that are often present in railroad applications. GarrettCom offers conformal coating as an optional add-on to ensure continuous operation. HARDENED ETHERNET PRODUCTSGarrettCom's hardened Ethernet products are designed with a variety of integral fibre ports – from multi-mode to single-mode, from standard SC and ST connector types to small form factor types such as MTRJ and LC, and from 10Mb to 10GB speed. GarrettCom's managed 6K software includes a secure management interface and redundancy features such as RS-Ring. GarrettCom also offers power input options on its products, including worldwide AC and DC at 12V, 24V, 48V and 110V, with dual-source redundancy optional. For the new PoE service, GarrettCom has developed a range of industrial power-source PoE products based on the IEEE 802.3af standard specification that supports security products such as IP-cameras and badge readers. VIDEO SURVEILLANCE APPLICATIONSVideo surveillance cameras have grown in popularity and use as an effective tool for security and management. Video cameras can provide real time, full-motion feedback, whether on rolling stock or at stations and railway yards. The combination of high bandwidth demands along with fibre cabling has resulted in the emergence of Ethernet as the protocol of choice for video surveillance systems, and other outdoor applications. Ethernet's virtually unlimited bandwidth, ruggedness, scalability, and inexpensive systems components make it a natural for the new generation of railway applications. Key features include:
