EKE-Electronics has announced that it has received International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) certification (Rev 02). The certification covers on-board vehicle control, passenger information and communication system categories.

The IRIS certification was received by EKE-Electronics at the first attempt on 5 March 2010, audited by LRQA’s international auditor team. So far there are only two rail industry companies within the Nordic countries that have received the Rev 02 certification. Also globally the number of IRIS Rev 02 certified companies is still very limited due to its rigorous requirements.

“This achievement proves that EKE-Electronics is operating on a very high level of process management. Being one of the first companies in the world to achieve IRIS Rev 02 will give our customers the confidence that they are dealing with a company where quality is the most important thing,” said Mr Pauli Kyllönen, quality manager at EKE-Electronics.

“IRIS Rev 02 certification provides us with a competitive edge and further strengthens our solid position as the leading TCMS supplier in the railway industry. This certification complements our effort in enhancing our operations and reputation, and demonstrates again our commitment to deliver quality products and services to our customers,” said Mr Pekka Kuusela, CEO of EKE-Electronics.

IRIS is a globally recognised standard unique to the railway industry for the evaluation of management systems. IRIS is owned by the Association of European Rail Industry (UNIFE) and supported by operators, system integrators, and equipment manufacturers. IRIS’ main objective is to improve the quality in the rail sector by reduction of efforts and costs. This certification supplements the ISO 9001:2008 quality standard in order to meet the special requirements of the railway industry.
