General Cable - Polyrad®XT Flexible Rapid Transit and Locomotive Wire and Cable

General Cable powers your rapid transit and locomotive applications with a wide range of wire and cable products. Our copper and fiber cable technology provides the working link that ties systems, power and communications together. A longstanding frontrunner, General Cable brings new cabling system ideas to the industry through better cable technology, superior safety, easier and faster cable installation, simplified maintenance, extended performance and improved cost efficiencies.

RAPID TRANSIT AND LOCOMOTIVE WIRE AND CABLE

General Cable’s Polyrad®XT wire and cables combine superior properties and performance to provide a lifelong dependable power service for all types of rapid transit, freight cars and locomotives, heavy and lightrail cars, wayside equipment and off-road vehicles.

Our rapid transit and locomotive cables and wires offer extreme flexibility and excellent thermal stability due to radiation cross-linking. They have a temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. Dual 125°C / 110°C temperature ratings ensure a longer lifespan, higher ampacity and protection from thermal overloads. Polyrad XT multiconductor shielded and non-shielded cables are rated at 125°C and supplied in 600V and 2,000V constructions.

POLYRAD ULTRA WIRES AND CABLES

Polyrad Ultra 600V 125°C wires and cables offer better performance, reduced weight and smaller diameters, defining the next generation of cable. They are ideal where high-density cabling is required. Polyrad Ultra singles can be designed into multiconductor constructions that are 600V and rated 125°C.

Features include:

  • Reduced diameter and lighter weight – up to 33% weight and space savings compared to the conventional Polyrad XT 600V
  • Dual wall for outstanding thermal stability at elevated temperatures
  • Maximum flame-retardance and low-smoke properties
  • Excellent low-temperature performance
  • Temperature range of -55°C to + 125°C
  • Meets the toxicity requirements of BSS 7239, SMP 800-C and ASTM E662

TRANSPOWER HEAD-END POWER CABLES

General Cable has engineered a power cable used in jumper assemblies locomotive-to-locomotive, locomotive-to-car and car-to-car for transmission of 480V, three phase 50Hz / 60Hz. Transpower head-end power cables have been designed for heavy-duty service where severe flexing is encountered with continuous shock and vibrations. Single conductor 4/0AWG and three conductor 10AWG cables are fully tested to meet all applicable industry specifications.

SUPER VU-TRON® DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE CABLES

The Super Vu-Tron DLO 90°C 2,000V cable is tough enough to withstand daily abuse, temperature extremes and high-stress transit environments providing maximum performance. These diesel locomotive cables are ideal for applications where flexible power leads must be installed in conduits or raceways.

ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED PNEUMATIC BRAKE CABLE

General Cable’s Electronically Controlled Pneumatic (ECP) brake cables are engineered to meet the stringent standards of AAR, and safely and reliably operate specifically for installation both under and between cars.

Features of General Cable's ECP brake cables include:

  • AAR S-4210 compliance
  • 125°C insulation / 90°C jacket rating for routing through higher temperature areas
  • Flexible and free stripping insulation system
  • Tinned copper braided shield design for significant EMI/RFI reduction
  • Temperature range of -55°C to +90°C

FIBER-OPTIC CABLES

From industrial-grade process control and outside-plant fiber-optic cables to commercial-grade cables and blown optical fiber systems, General Cable has a fiber-optic solution to meet the most stringent requirements with long-term performance and reliability. Our ultra-rugged Low-Smoke, Zero-Halogen (LSZH) irradiated cables are designed for today’s data transmission and communications applications.

HYBRID MULTI-CORE CABLE

General Cable has extensive engineering expertise in the design and manufacturing of hybrid multi-core cables. A combination of General Cable’s power, control, fiber-optic and coaxial cables meet special purpose requirements by combining quality materials and manufacturing processes. With the unique ability to process an extensive variety of material - cross-linked polyolefin, arctic-grade neoprene, Chlorinated PolyEthylene (CPE), etc. - General Cable continues to be a preferred choice for the development of new technology.

APPLICATION-SPECIFIC CABLE HARNESSES AND ASSEMBLIES

General Cable specializes in high-end and precision-engineered cable harnesses and assemblies utilizing vertically integrated in-house capabilities. From application-specific cable design, engineering and manufacture, to custom-engineered cable harnesses and assemblies with fully documented and traceable test procedures in accordance with our customer specifications, General Cable offers quantifiable quality cabling solutions.
