Carson - UTX, URX and Bridge Crossings Construction System

The Carson Multi Duc system is the most modern and cost effective method of maximising valuable track possessions and constructing cable networks, under track crossings (UTXs), under road crossings (URXs), bridge crossings, and platform cabling. It can also be used for cable burying applications parallel to the track.

It is currently used in thousands of Network Rail projects throughout the UK, and also across Europe and the USA. The use of this system significantly reduces the amount of labour, materials and track possession time required for project completion.

Multi Duc preformed one-piece duct system

Multi Duc consists of four, six and nine-way preformed one-piece duct options. A broad range of accessories including bends, flexible duct, gaskets, adapters, etc. is available. The system also includes in excess of 200 sizes of preformed trackside chambers / manholes with lockable covers, to cater for all trackside eventualities.

The 1.1m lengths of Multi Duc have a male / female and spring clip connection system which facilitates fast and easy assembly above the ground or in the UTX / URX trench.

A number of UK and European rail organisations installing Multi Duc have experienced savings of up to 70% over traditional methods of UTX and URX construction. Same-day project completion is ensured as the Multi Duc can be easily transported to site and manually installed without the need for any expensive lifting equipment.

Multi Duc is exceptionally strong and durable, with a vertical load capacity of 8t freestanding. This strength allows it to be installed without the need for concrete backfill, which greatly reduces on-site costs and assists in meeting strict track possession deadlines.

Large multiple-duct banks

Large multiple-duct banks can be easily assembled to cater for current and future cable capacity requirements. An installation at Birmingham New Street used a 54-way Multi Duc solution (six-way x nine-way) and 2.5m² preformed trackside chambers.

Preformed trackside chambers

Our preformed trackside chambers are modular in design with lengths / widths available from 400mm to 5,000m and depths up to 3,000mm. They can be fitted with lockable HDPE, ductile iron or concrete covers, which can be removed / replaced by one man, in accordance with health and safety regulations.

Step irons, duct entries, floor plates, chamber furniture, internal anti-vandalism plates, etc. can be pre-fitted or easily fitted on site. In excess of 50 million Carson chambers have been installed worldwide since the 1960s.
