The vast geographical area of the USSR called for the invention of suitable brake equipment for the particularly long and heavy trains that ran in the country. The first Model 483 brake control-valve, based on the work of Russian inventor Ivan Matrosov, and further developed and physically implemented by first-class designers Evgeniya Egorenkova and Lev Kozyulin, started an era of continuous research and development in this field.
MTZ Transmash has since developed a number of modifications of the 483 brake control valve, constantly improving characteristics and reliability and simplifying its maintenance. The newest development in this field is brake control valve 483A-07, which is an even more reliable device than its most successful predecessor, 483A-03.

Our newest product for passenger coaches is the 242 brake control valve, which is used with the 305 electric-brake control valve. Currently, development is being carried out to produce a single unit of brake equipment for new passenger trains.
Due to the improvement of its construction and the materials used in the 242 brake control valve, the time interval between necessary maintenance has extended to four years. The previous 292M model required maintenance to be carried out twice a year. This has significantly reduced lifecycle cost and improved the reliability of brake control valves.
MTZ Transmash always aims to develop and produce reliable devices which are the most suitable for their specific places of application. This principle has been fundamental in developing UKTOL unified pneumatic and electro-pneumatic brake equipment for locomotives. UKTOL is available in two versions – one for passenger and one for freight locomotives - which take into account different specifics and have different technical solutions to meet every requirement.
The cramped internal environment of locomotives required the introduction of a new driver's remote brake control and brake control unit that took up less room. Thus 010 (freight) and 030 (passenger) model brake control devices appeared along with the Model 130 driver's remote brake control device.
In spite of the fact that these devices are very complex and sophisticated, they provide unmatched reliability. They are also easy to maintain because all air connections are cut inside the thoroughly machined and chemically coated metal plates which are glued together. The executive brake equipment is then assembled on these plates, ensuring easy access and easy assembly-disassembly.
For 40 years we have been engaged in developing brake systems for high-speed trains for Russian Railways (RZD). During this period our brake products have been successfully tested on many high-speed trains. Tests were carried out at speeds of 250km/h and showed that MTZ Transmash's products meet all RZD's requirements.
Products include 155A and 248 model pneumatic brake control unit, emergency brake valve 130.030 and many other devices which make up a complex brake system for high-speed trains and underground rolling stock.
