SOLID WHEELS AND WHEEL SETS FOR MAINLINE OPERATIONThere are different requirements on a wheel, depending on the application. Gutehoffnungshütte Radsatz produces solid wheels and wheel sets for high speed Electrical Multiple Units (EMUs) as well as for diesel-powered trains (DMUs) and all kinds of locomotives. As a specialist for wheels and running gear components we work out constructive solutions for these combinations in close coordination with the railcar manufacturer. This ensures that they are ideally suited for the planned service. SAB V60 RESILIENT RUBBER-SPRUNG WHEELIn public transport, such as interurban, city and underground trains, ride comfort is an essential factor. Our rubber-sprung SAB V60 wheel is a separable wheel construction of low weight and consisting of only a few components. The single-piece V-shaped rubber ring provides a high degree of noise reduction and diminishes impact loads. In the last few years many international railcar manufacturers have decided for our SAB wheel as the best-suited rubber-sprung wheel for their application. PORTAL AXLES FOR LOW-FLOOR VEHICLESMillions of citizens rely on inner-city or regional railway connections and expect modern comfort. Low-floor vehicles offer comfortable boarding and generous passenger-compartment space. From a technical point of view this can be achieved only by complex construction features. WHEEL-TO-RAIL CONTACT - REMAINING SAFELY ON TRACKThe invention of the railway was a pacemaker of the modern age. A basic principle has remained unchanged to this date: in order to remain safely on track a reliable wheel-to-rail contact is essential. Wheels and running gear components are therefore components which are extremely relevant to safety. As specialist for these components Gutehoffnungshütte Radsatz performs an enormous amount of testing. It goes without saying that our components comply with all national and international regulations and provisions. LMT - WHEEL PROFILE TESTING WHILE ROLLING PASTWhilst formerly, time consuming measurements were required to check the wear and tear of wheel sets, Gutehoffnungshütte Radsatz has developed a time and cost saving method. Based on Laser Measurement Technology (LMT), the wheel profile can now be checked without any contact while rolling past. For this purpose the laser measuring equipment is installed along the railroad or within the depot. All characteristic values, from the wheel flange height to the distance between internal wheel faces, are measured in parts of a second and compared with the design data in the database.
