For nearly 100 years, Atlas Rail has partnered the development of the rail industry throughout the world. With a combined engineering group comprising 180 technical and manufacturing staff, we are one of the largest machine tool building groups in the field.

Founded in England in 1913, over 300 Atlas machines have been installed in more than 51 countries. In 2002, Atlas Rail re-located to Melbourne, Australia and this is now the base for its worldwide operations.

Above-floor, surface-floor and under-floor wheel lathes

Our above-floor, surface-floor and under-floor wheel lathes have a wide range of options for customised use and feature CNC control, profile measurement, swarf crushing and extraction, flange guide rollers, axle box supports and hold downs, sliding rails and roller driving heads.

Wheel presses

Atlas Rail leads the world in high-performance, single and double-ended hydraulic and CNC wheel presses for mounting and demounting set equipment such as gears, bearings and wheels for all types of rolling stock.

Our ‘Titan’ range of presses, from 150t to 600t, feature manual control or fully automated loading and unloading, closed loop controlled hydraulic positioning, PLC machine control and an axle checking stand to test for wheel run-out and wobble.

Wheel measuring system

High speed camera and laser technology make the Atlas Rail / MRX wheel measuring system one of the most advanced of its type.

Accurately measuring wheel profiles on moving rolling stock, the system offers data logging and trending capabilities and integration with electronic bogie identification tags.

It can even be integrated with our wheel lathes and progression systems to create and automated wheel data management system.

Train wash systems

Clean trains powerfully advertise the respect you show your customers and the efficiency of your organisation. Using a combination of low rotational speed and gentle slapping flails, the Atlas train wash systems provide the best performing technology for cleaning your rolling stock at minimal costs.

Most of Atlas Rail’s current models are supported by remote diagnostics, enabling us to upload new programs and wheel profiles, or to effectively resolve most issues by telephone or over the internet. We also offer comprehensive periodic maintenance contracts by our experienced service engineers to keep your machines running reliably and trouble free.
